While Buckingham Palace is a must see when you are visiting London, Windsor Castle is an even grander castle of the Royal Family. Dating back to when it was a timber castle, Windsor Castle is full of wonderful history. Windsor Castle is unquestionably Queen Elizabeth's favorite castle, located 25 miles from Buckingham Palace outside of London, and attracts millions of travelers to London due to its close proximity to Heathrow Airport (7 miles).

We suggest allocating a full day in the town of Windsor, firstly to spend 3 hours touring Windsor Castle, open daily from 9:30am with the last admission at 3pm. Be sure not to miss St. George's Chapel and learn about the Order of the Garter. It is the final resting places of Edward IV, King of England who was buried in 1483, King George VI in 1952, and many other princess and princesses. It is a fascinating way to learn about the history of England.

The extensive gardens, library, dining halls, and magnificence of this living castle is sure to fascinate. With the May 2018 wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's in the St George's Chapel, there is added reason to visit Windsor Castle.

After viewing the splendor of Windsor Castle, the small town of Windsor is a delightful place to stroll through with its charming shops. It’s literally across the street from the town village making your day in Windsor very accessible (no need for a car).

If you are traveling to London on a family vacation, Windsor is also home to LegoLand, one of Europe's largest theme parks! It is wildly popular with over 2.5 million visitors per year and features Lego rides, building workshops, and amazing models of well-known landmarks. It's the perfect way to enjoy the afternoon with children and a total contrast to visiting Windsor Castle in the morning. Who said kids can’t have fun when traveling to England?

Less than 2 miles from Windsor Castle is Eton College, the most prestigious all-boys private boarding school. It is well worth walking through the town of Eton and the school grounds. Eton College was founded in 1440 and has educated many Royal Family members as well as 19 British Prime Ministers. Like most university towns, Eton has the charm of being located on the River Thames and has a vibrant feel set in medieval architecture.
