The Most Instagrammable Spots in Rio de Janeiro

By Jessica Russo

Rio should be on every traveler's bucket list. With picture-perfect beaches, lush rainforests, soaring peaks, and an artistic flair, this vibrant city is bursting with life. Speaking of life, have we mentioned the nightlife scene? In Rio, the party never stops. Around every corner and in every colorful neighborhood, the perfect photo awaits. Get grammin'!

Ilha Grande

Just a quick boat ride from the main city of Rio, paradise awaits in Ilha Grande. Crystal clear water, lush forest, and palm-lined stretches of white sand beach? Yes, please. Whether you lounge in the sun or snorkel with sea turtles, Ilha Grande guarantees a good time (and insanely good pictures).

Escadaria Selarón

Also known as the "Selaron Steps," this world-famous staircase is the perfect spot for an eye-popping photo. Thank the Chilean-born artist Jorge Selaron for this beautiful work of art. He called it his "tribute to the Brazilian people."

Christ the Redeemer

The impressive Cristo Redentor statue stands at a whopping 98 feet tall, and his outstretched arms span about 92 feet. While he makes for some breathtaking photographs, it can be tricky getting his entire body in the frame. Some tips: get low to the ground for a cool angle shot or take photos from Sugar Loaf, the gondola, or parks on ground level.

Sugarloaf Mountain

Situated at the mouth of Guanabara Bay, this peak is one of Rio's most iconic natural landmarks. For extra cool views (and a little thrill), take the gondola and glide to the top! Not only is the mountain itself photo-worthy, but a trip to the peak rewards you with a bird's eye view of Rio de Janeiro.

Boulevard Olimpico

Rio de Janeiro isn't only about beaches and bars - it's also a creative city where art is celebrated. Known as one of the largest street murals in the world, Etnias or "Ethnicities" depicts a Tajapo boy from Brazil, a Mursi woman from Ethiopia, a Kayin woman from Thailand, a Supi man from Northern Europe, and a Huli man from Papua New Guinea. Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra captures humanity and celebrates diversity in his jaw-dropping mural that is big in size and beauty.

Rio de Janeiro Botantical Garden

Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro is a colorful feast for the senses. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the sweet smell of flowers and greenery as you stroll through leafy greenery, sky-high trees, and bright blossoms. Keep your eyes out for pretty ponds and views of Christ the Redeemer!

Praia Vermelha

Offering stunning views of Sugar Loaf and bright blue-green water, "Red Beach" is secluded, romantic, and downright stunning. Surrounded by impressive stone structures, swaying palms, and calm cafes, Vermelha is a quiet spot to take those beautiful beach photos.
