Shofuso Japanese House and Garden

Looking for a break from the buzz of the city? Find peace and tranquility at Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, nestled in Fairmount Park. Fun fact: this traditional-style Japanese house was actually built in Japan and then shipped to New York for an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art! It arrived at its permanent home, Philadelphia, in 1958.

Elfreth's Alley

Philadelphia takes the cake for having several of the “oldest” things in America! Elfreth’s Alley just so happens to be the oldest residential street in the USA. In 1702, two blacksmiths surrendered part of their land to create an alleyway for river access. In the mid-1700s, houses were built in said alley, and today, it’s one of the most charming streets in all of America!
