1. Maya Museum and the San Miguelito Ruins

Take a trip to the Hotel Zone to discover the San Miguelito Ruins and Maya Museum Cancun. Visitors can wander among the ancient ruins of Chichen Itzen, see jade artifacts, and much more. Don’t miss this amazing wonder, which is open through January.

2. Three Kings’ Day

On January 6, celebrate this important Mexican holiday. Kids get presents, and families gather to cut open a cake with a doll inside. Whoever gets the slice with the doll has to host a party in February. Visitors can celebrate Three Kings’ Day at local restaurants and bars - some offer special menus during this time of the year.

3. Cancun Scenic Tower

4. Golf Cart Scavenger Hunt

5. Feast of San Antonio Abad

Head to Mexico City for the Feast of San Antonio Abad on January 17. Animals receive blessings at local churches, such as the Church of San Fernando or San Juan Bautista Church. Local restaurants often participate in the festivities as well. It’s a great time to get to know the local culture!

6. New Year’s Day Celebrations

January 1, Mexico celebrates Año Nuevo, or New Year’s Day. This is a solemn day when many locals stay home or attend church services. Businesses are usually closed on New Year's Day. So it's a good time to see the local architecture, or visit tourist areas without the crowds.

7. Lucha Libre Show

Lucha Libre shows are an awesome experience that are hard to find outside of Mexico. These wrestling shows are inexpensive and wildly entertaining! Two wrestlers have a raucous fight lasting three rounds. You can catch one of these shows throughout the month of January.

8. Swim through an Underwater Museum

This is one of the most popular (and unique!) things to do while on your Cancun vacation. Head to MUSA, an underwater museum where you can see hundreds of submerged statues. Open through January, you can snorkel to see the exhibits, or take a ride in a glass-bottom boat.
