By Kenya Barrett

While there are tons of things to do in Mykonos, we've compiled a short list of activities that will make your trip even more exciting!

Explore the Mykonos Windmills

It’s hard to visit Mykonos without stopping by one of its most hard-to-miss attractions – the Mykonos Windmills. Though there were once over 20 windmills in Mykonos, now there are only seven, known as Kato Mili. Situated on a windy hill south of Chora, these structures once served as a source of income for families milling wheat. Today, Kato Mili remains an iconic symbol of Mykonos pride and provides gorgeous views of the Aegean Sea perfect for pictures. Checking out the windmills is also one of the best free things to do in Mykonos!

Stroll along Matogianni Street

A street favored by locals and tourists alike has to be Matogianni Street. Visitors tend to flock to this strip due to its abundance of high-end retailers and exclusive boutiques. In addition to a bunch of designer shops, Matogianni is filled with a variety of restaurants and bars. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh seafood or traditional Greek eats, this strip truly has it all. For those simply looking to enjoy the nightlife scene, Matogianni Street is perfect for cocktail hour, a bar crawl, or a night of live music from a local DJ.

Visit the island of Delos

Delos is a small island located off the coast of Mykonos that is equally rich in history and culture. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Greece, this sacred isle is the original birthplace of Apollo, the god of daylight, and is currently home to several landmarks. Some of these include the Terrace of the Lions, the sanctuary of Apollo, and the iconic three temples. Just a short catamaran sailed from the port of Mykonos, this island is well worth a visit if you're interested in learning more about the history behind Greek mythology.

Discover Little Venice

If you'd like to experience a little bit of romance during your time in Mykonos, then head over to Little Venice. Modeled in 18th-century Venetian-style architecture, the area once served as a trading port for sailors and merchants visiting the island. As such, the town retained its relevance and is home to many great activities. Not only is the area perfect for catching the sunset with your special someone, but it also features a lively nightlife scene. With bars and seaside restaurants available on every corner, Little Venice is the perfect place to explore.

Spend time at Elia Beach

One of the largest beaches in Mykonos is Elia Beach. Known for its fine sandy coast, the beach attracts visitors from all over the world due to its super relaxed atmosphere. Sunbathers can enjoy the crystal clear waters of the sea, participate in different water sports activities, or simply spend time working on their tan. If you happen to get hungry, grab a bite from any of the many restaurants or bars on the strip right before the coast.

Snap photos at the iconic Armenistis Lighthouse

If you’re looking for the perfect place to capture precious moments during your vacation in Mykonos, be sure to visit the Armenistis Lighthouse. Originally built in 1891, this iconic landmark is a 19-meter-high octagonal structure serving as a watchtower for boats sailing in the Aegean Sea. After the accidental wreckage of the British steamboat “Volta,” the lighthouse provided additional guidance to sailors traveling at night. Today, the Armenistis Lighthouse stands as a tall monument worthy of pictures. In the evening, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the sun setting over the Aegean Sea.

Explore The Old Port of Mykonos

One of the most vibrant places in Mykonos is its Old Port, an area that's bustling with shoppers and merchants. There are a ton of hotels in the area, as well as restaurants, boutiques, and the iconic traditional fish market. Visitors can grab a bite to eat, shop for souvenirs and trinkets, or simply view ships as they sail along the coast. Individuals who enjoy snapping photos may want to check out the area’s picturesque alleys or chill by the docks during sunset. Like Matogianni Street, the Old Port of Mykonos also boasts a colorful nightlife – so if you’re looking for fun things to do in Mykonos at night, this should be on your list!
