Fun Things to do in Grand Cayman

By Soren Rivero

Want to take a guess at what the largest island in the Cayman Islands is?

If you’re thinking of the island of Grand Cayman, you’re absolutely right! From museums dedicated to preserving the Caymanian heritage to stunning tropical beaches, there’s something for everyone here. To help get you started, here are the top 10 fun things to do in Grand Cayman!

Cayman Turtle Centre

Do you love turtles? You’re surely going to love splashing alongside them at Cayman Turtle Centre! This unique aquatic exhibit brings you up close and personal with green sea turtles, the island’s indigenous species of turtles. You can swim alongside them, spot other aquatic creatures, and maybe even see a turtle hatch from an egg! The best part about this experience is the effort the team goes into conservation, as the protected turtles are released into the water once it's safe for them.

Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park

The exotic nature adventures inherent to this island aren’t limited to just underwater quests and beachside activities. The island is also home to some gorgeous parks! Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is one of those. Here, you can visit three main attractions all offering something unique: the Visitor’s Centre, the Floral Garden, and the Heritage Garden. Locals say this is one of the most serene and peaceful places to visit on the Cayman Islands.

The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands is a must-see in Grand Cayman. This is a great place to learn about the Caymanian heritage via art displays. It’s even better if you’re going with kids as there are events catered towards making learning fun and interactive!

Shop in Georgetown

Want to get some souvenirs to take home with you, or just looking to buy something cute to wear at the beach? Head on over to Georgetown for an exciting shopping experience at the island’s prime shopping center!

Beaches, beaches, and beaches

This one goes without saying, but you have to organize a dedicated beach day. You’d be missing out if you didn’t. There’s plenty to choose from when you visit Grand Cayman. Our top recommendation is the famous Seven Mile Beach — perfect for those who love pure white sands and crystal blue waters. Other great beaches include West Bay Beach and Starfish Point!

Explore Skull Cave

Let your inner child live out their pirate dreams by exploring the (almost) supernatural-esque Skull Cave! This cave is located on the bluffs of Cayman Brac, along with many other noteworthy attractions. Just a fair warning: finding the cave entrance is going to take some time, but it's totally worth it.

Bioluminescent Bay

Grand Cayman’s Bioluminescent Bay is absolutely hypnotizing. You can reserve a kayaking tour of the Bioluminescent Bay at night time when the colors are in full pigmentation. Not sure what we’re talking about? Think of bioluminescent bays as bodies of water with heaps of ‘underwater fairy dust’ — as some people call it. During night time, microscopic organisms react with water which causes them to glow with neon blue and green light.

Dive at Stingray City

Regarded as the best 12-foot dive in the entire world, Stingray City should be at the top of your list when visiting Grand Cayman. Activities in this city range from snorkeling and scuba diving, to swimming and glass-boat tours. Even more interesting are the guided tours where you can swim and play with Atlantic stingrays!

Tour “Cayman Down Under”

Located on the very northside of the island near a rich tropical forest are the Cayman Crystal Caves. Tours are available that will take you deep down into the caves, where you can see marvelous formations of crystal rocks and stalactites. Fascinating as is, the tours will definitely help you learn more about what lies beneath our Earth.

Delicious Local Cuisine

Last but not least, you've got try some of the local food. Here on the Cayman Islands, you can try Coconut Shrimp, Conch Stew, Cassava Cake, Fish Rundown, and much else! The island is also great for mixed drinks and cocktails, including the Cayman's iconic Mudslide.
