Essential Travel Packing List

By Soren Rivero

Sweaty palms, heart racing, rapid thoughts... you're at the airport but forgot to bring something, didn't you? We've all been there – you check off everything on your list once, twice, maybe three times. You’re sure you have everything, except when you get to the airport and realize you forgot your headphones or, worse, passport.

Of course, all of this can be avoided if you pack ahead of time correctly. Here are some tips on how to pack more efficiently to help make your trip go smoothly?

Toiletry Containers

No more leaving home without your go-to products! Toiletry containers come in various shapes and sizes and are made to fill up on shampoo, conditioner, skin care, body wash, and other products. They fit easily into container bags which makes luggage organization much easier and less time consuming. So don’t worry about having to settle on the tiny supplies given by hotels – bring all your necessities in small, easy to travel containers!

Sanitary Items

Airport and plane sanitation routines have improved since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, you can never be too careful.

As an added precaution, be sure to pack some (TSA-approved sized) hand sanitizer bottles and sanitizing wipes to help keep your area clean. You can keep most of these on your carry on. Your future self will thank you, trust us.

Neck Pillow

Long flights beget long naps, so for the sake of your neck and back, take a neck pillow! These useful items come as cheap as a few dollars and are fairly simple, but can make all the difference. Some come with internal massagers that vibrate to promote relaxation; others may come with heating or cooling functions. Whichever you pick, a neck pillow is highly recommended. Also, neck pillows don’t technically count as extra luggage and can be easily secured to your carry-on.

Masks, Masks, and Extra Masks

COVID-19 is still ongoing, and one of the best ways to protect yourself (and others) is by wearing a mask.

Planes, airports, and some countries may still make wearing masks mandatory. To avoid any trouble, bring a mask – in fact, bring extra. Traveling, sometimes with its spontaneous nature, makes us susceptible to losing things, so it never hurts to be prepared. You can also take this as an opportunity to finally use some of those fancy reusable masks.

Packing Cubes

Have you ever arrived at your destination after a long flight, only to find that your luggage is a huge mess and you can’t find what you’re looking for? This is where packing cubes can become a life saver. Packing cubes are designed to fit perfectly into most luggage's and help keep everything neat and organized. They’re super customizable and chic, too!

Travel Wallet

When you’re traveling, there are more items than usual that you’ll need to carry around. Some of these items include your passport, copy of travel insurance, vaccination card, or international driving licenses. It’s nearly impossible to fit these into a standard wallet, so consider getting a travel wallet.

Travel wallets are very popular and are designed to keep almost all of your essentials locked into one little, foldable wallet. Some even include special compartments for extra protection for your passport or other documents.

Necessary Documents

Ensure you take all necessary documents whenever you travel. This may require various forms of photo ID, COVID-19 documents, passport, or others. Make a checklist of all the necessary documents you’ll need on your trip, and remember that if you’re going to a foreign country, the checklist will likely look longer.

Smart Trackers

Luggage tags are always smart to have on your bags, providing your contact information in case the bag gets lost. What’s even better, though, is a smart tracker! They act very similar to traditional tags except come with a unique tracking code. Once you set up the code in an app, you can personally track down the luggage according to the guidance right from your phone.

Power Bank, Portable HotSpot, and Other Tech

Lastly, here are some final things that might make you more comfortable on your next trip:

  • Portable charger/power bank
  • Universal USB and/or charging cords
  • Selfie sticks
  • Tripods
  • Portable HotSpots
  • Earphones

Don't forget all of these items on your next trip!
