September brings festivals to Scotland’s shores! If you’re visiting in September, you’re in luck. Edinburgh is celebrating art, food, and culture through its many public events! Read on below to find out where you can join in the fun.
1. Art Walk Festival
Celebrate artists and their works of art with this lovely annual festival! Join the fest at Portobello beach, where you can view art from dozens of artists. Over 80 locations in the area will feature artwork or events! Check out performances, art installations, and other events. At night, you can catch a film projected onto the Portobello Promenade!
2. Celtic Crag Walk
September 5, gather for an informative walk through one of Scotland’s most famous parks! A ranger will guide you through a Holyrood Park. As you wind through the Park, you’ll learn about the rich Celtic history, common myths and legends associated with the Park, and history back to the Stone Age!
3. Fancy Women Bike Ride
Ok ladies, now let’s bike in formation! This fun annual event encourages more women to bike in Scotland’s cities. Entrants decorate their bikes, and riders are encouraged to bring their friends - the more the merrier! September 20, join the group or cheer them on!
Don a kilt and walk for charity! This popular fundraising event has three tiers - the 5 mile Wee Walk, the 15.5 mile Big Stroll, or the 24 mile Mighty Stride. Each guest receives a free meal and a medal for finishing the race, which takes place on September 13. Best of all, the money raised will support cancer research. You’ll find food, entertainment, and good cheer throughout this community event!
5. The Great British Food Festival
September 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27, bring your appetite! At various locales around Scotland, you can indulge in savory meats, sweet treats, and everything in between. Try smoked sausages, spicy curries, artisan breads, and much more. Dont’ miss the events, which includes foraging walks, crafts, cooking classes for kids, bake-offs and cakes offs, and live music!
6. Scottish Half Marathon
Race around Scotland or cheer on the runners! Set on a flat path at Meadowmill Sports Centre, this half marathon draws around 4,000 participants each year! Follow the route through the flat winding area of East Lothian. This half marathon ends at the Musselburgh Race Course.
